Claire McCaskill, U.S. Senator for Missouri
McCaskill got her start as an assistant prosecutor in Kansas City. From the outset, McCaskill has been breaking ground as a female political figure. She was the first female Missouri State Legislator to become a mother while in office, the first woman to be elected Jackson County Prosecutor, and the first woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate from Missouri. Earlier this year, she bravely shared her breast cancer diagnosis. According to the senator, her prognosis is good, and having already supported breast-cancer-related legislation, we can only hope that she too can benefit from the type of change she is trying to affect in women’s healthcare.
