Kamala Harris, California Attorney General
The current frontrunner in the California Senate race has served as California’s Attorney General since 2011. An Oakland native of Indian and Jamaican descent, Davis was the first woman, the first South Asian, and the first African American in state history to be elected Attorney General. Because of California’s proximity to Mexico, her tenure has come with a dose of international responsibility, having worked with Mexico to combat human trafficking — including the sexual exploitation of women and girls — as well as gang and drug activity. Harris is also a long-time supporter of Planned Parenthood and an unapologetic advocate for women’s reproductive freedom.
