5 healthy habits: Jackie Widmann, Partnerships Manager at The Infatuation

Being healthy isn’t a quick or easy endeavor — we get it! We certainly don’t have an unlimited budget for $15 green juices or enough hours in the day to spend two of them at the gym. In our “5 healthy habits” series we get inspired by tips & tricks from real women (no celebrity yoga gurus allowed!) and share the healthful practices they’ve incorporated into their daily lives.

My name is Jackie and I’m the Community & Partnerships Manager at The Infatuation. I’ve lived in NYC for over five years now, and I’ve always loved exploring restaurants and eating out at new spots with friends and family. I’ve tried to take a healthy approach with my my food choices, and really feel that a good mix of clean eating + indulgence has always been the key for me. Here are the ways I stay healthy when being around all those amazing #eeeeeats:

1. I stay active. My number one focus when it comes to staying healthy is making sure I stay active. I pay for a Classpass membership that gets me five classes a month, as well as a monthly gym membership. I make sure I’m supplementing my workouts on the treadmill or elliptical with more interactive classes like spinning/boxing, etc. My gym is also in my building, which definitely helps.

2. I monitor my portions. The biggest thing for me (especially with this job) is to make sure to monitor my portions. When I go out to eat with friends/family, even if we order a ton of food, I try to really pay attention to when I’m full and not overeat.

3. I drink water. This is a simple one, but it’s so valid. Drinking a ton of water every day keeps you feeling better throughout the day, makes your skin better, and is just a healthier alternative than the many sugary drinks that exist today.

4. I plan ahead. I always try to keep track of my calendar when it comes to making dinner reservations with friends, family, etc. If I know I’ll be out for dinner 3 times in a week, I try to space it out so I can supplement the heavier meals out with healthy home-cooked meals that I make myself in my apartment.

5. Experiment With Recipes. When I cook at home, I try to keep things interesting and healthy. I recently purchased a spiralizer, which has been awesome because I’ve started making zucchini noodles (a replacement for real spaghetti), which is a much healthier alternative when making something like pomodoro sauce.
