Would it be helpful to see my primary care doctor before I go see my OBGYN? I have not seen an OBGYN before, nor have I had a well-check visit with my primary in some time. Would it be helpful to my OBGYN if I have, or would it just redundant?
It would be helpful to see your primary care first for most things, especially if you already have an established relationship with them. They often provide full spectrum reproductive health care, that includes pre-pregnancy counseling, well-woman exams, contraception, and much more. So seeing them first may save you a trip! It may be a good idea to ask your primary care doctor if this is a service they can provide for you, since not all primary docs provide women’s health care. If they do not, they may refer you to a specialist.
