Why do I experience pain during sex, even when using a lubricant?
There can be many reasons for this, from vaginal infections to scar tissue to dryness from a low estrogenic state (not always helped by lubricant), and/or a structural cause. This is really something to be determined between you and a women’s health care provider who knows your entire health history and who can do the work-up and exam to determine how to best support you. During the intake/interview with this provider, I would specify with them whether your pain is elicited at the introitus (vaginal opening) or if it is experienced deep inside. This will offer clues to what may be the cause. It can offer peace of mind to find some answers, so don’t hesitate to reach out to your gynecologic professional.
