I’m 54 and recently discovered a pea size lump in my inner labia. I’ve asked my GP for appointment but haven’t heard back. I am really anxious. I thought it might be Bartholin’s cyst but at my age those aren’t that common, right?

Hi, I am 54. Recently I discovered a pea size lump in my inner labia. I’ve asked my GP for appointment, still haven’t heard anything back. I am really anxious and can’t stop googling every day. I thought it might be Bartholin cyst but if I get it right - in my age it isn’t common? Should I be worried?

I’m sure it’s anxiety provoking, especially when you are trying to get an appointment with your GP or gynecologist — keep trying! You are right in saying that Bartholin’s cysts are not as frequent in your 50’s but it doesn’t mean that is not what you are experiencing. There are other glands that can get swollen which could be causing your symptoms. Also, depending on where your hair follicles are in relation to your outer and inner labia, it could be an ingrown hair follicle. I would try some warm compresses to see if it helps, and keep trying to get an appointment.
