I have never been late or missed a period in my life. Now at 31 I am 10 days late. Took a home pregnancy test and it was negative. Took a blood test at the doc and it was negative. What could be wrong?

I have never been late or missed a period in my life. Started when I was 13 now 31 and I am 10 days late. Took a home pregnancy test on the 7th day and it was negative, took a blood test at the doc and it’s negative. What could be wrong.

I know sudden changes to your period can be stressful, but I want you to know that you are not alone! Many of my patients right now have been having an irregular period. There can be a few reasons for this:

1) If you are sick right now or recovering from an illness your body can pause your period as it repairs.

2) Increased stress during this pandemic can also lead to an irregular period.

3) Diet changes or new medications/supplements can also affect your period.

I’m not worried about a single late period but would want to watch to see what happens over the next few cycles. If you are having more delayed periods where the cycle length significantly lengthens it would be worth checking in with your primary care doctor or gynecologist.
