Can severe depression cause a period to stop? Before I was hospitalized, I hadn't had my period for 10 months. Is this due to my depression or an indicator for infertility?
Depression on its own can certainly lead to alterations in your period because all hormonal pathways in the body are linked. Depression can affect the hormones that control mood, appetite, and sleep, just to name a few. Changes in these essential body functions may in turn affect your menstrual cycle, especially if associated with weight loss and poor diet. With that being said, 10 months is quite a long time to go without a period. Please do check in with your doctor to investigate an underlying cause.
